IT'S TIME TO GO MOBILE

Newspaper / Magazine on Mobile

With the mercurial rise of mobile technology, there is a growing demand for mobile-specific applications designed to enrich the experience of the mobile user. When the iPhone was launched in the summer of 2007, the eyes of mobile aficionados around the world were opened to the possibilities of a device that was part phone and part everything you could imagine.

In 2008, Apple sold over 10 million iPhones. 10 million. You can bet that those 10 million phones are not just being used for phone conversations. Today you see more and more phone companies bringing their latest and greatest multimedia mobile technology to the table; LG with the enV Touch, the Sprint Palm Pre and RIM Blackberry Curve just to name a few. More and more people are snapping up these multimedia titans and stretching their boundaries in search of music, entertainment, social engagement and digital content. If you think about it, the savvy consumer of today is applying their mobile phone technology in the same way people repurposed their personal computers 15 years ago when the internet first arrived. Or maybe you don't remember the days when the computer was strictly used as a word processor and a spreadsheet maker?

Mobile technology has created a society that gets their information and entertainment on the move and it's opened up an entire new landscape for publishers with digital content; news and articles that are up, and ready at the touch of a button.

Let's step back for a minute. When mobile technology really took off, a little less than a decade ago, there was no such thing as web-enabled. Today, if you're a mobile device manufacturer and you're going to play in the same territory as masterpieces like the iPhone, you better be sporting some pretty sophisticated hardware under the hood. And, they've all done it. But phone manufacturers have also found a way to put the responsibility of interconnectivity squarely on the shoulders of application developers. Everything built these days needs to be web-enabled if it's going to fly…and fly right.

Pressmart provides digital content that works seamlessly in modern, web-enabled, hand-held devices. Our experience in digital publishing keeps our clients on the cutting edge of emergent technology and emergent market opportunity. It's not a small world. It's a very large one.
