Ramdev may enter politics to check corruption

If growing number of supporters was any indicator, yoga guru Swami Ramdev will soon succeed in mounting pressure on government to abolish the currencies of higher denomination and intervening the national politics to check corruption at higher places.

Yoga guru Ramdev, who organised a large camp of yoga teachers comprising people from different walk of life in Guwahati on Tuesday also indicated that he was not even opposed to the idea of floating a political party to change the current political system by sending righteous, courageous, honest and sincere candidates to the Lok Sabha to run the country.

It’s sunrise at sunset

Actor Chiranjeevi on Tuesday announced the name of his political party, Praja Rajyam, amidst thunderous cheers from lakhs of hysteric fans and vowed to change the politics of Andhra Pradesh.

Giving full play to histrionics, Chiranjeevi, the son of a police constable, recounted the difficulties he had faced as a child in an emotion-choked voice and charged up the crowd in the temple town with a few interactions before announcing the name of his party with a dramatic countdown.

In fact, Chiranjeevi waited till sundown to announce his party’s name and stretched his speech till then, so that the display on the giant screen behind him and 18 screens located at the ground would be eye catching.

As the name of the party was splashed on the huge screens to the accompaniment of music, the 53-year old actor got a handicapped person to unfurl a green and white flag with a red sun in the middle.

HE’S GONE

The sober grey suit and tie were just right for the occasion. It was Pervez Musharraf ’s last day in office as president of Pakistan. He addressed the nation in a televised speech, took the guard of honour for one last time and left.

The former general’s future is a matter of wild speculation here in Pakistan and abroad: Where will he go? What will he do? And there are no answers at the moment, only choices and options.

Analysts believe that Musharraf has gone as part of a deal, overseen by the Pakistan Army, which will not allow its former chief to be humiliated.

Senate Chairman Mohammedmian Soomro assumed the office of acting president later in the day. A full-time successor will have to be named within the next four months according to the constitution.
