Honda launches new hatchback Jazz
Honda Siel Cars India (HSCI) launched its first small car in India, Jazz, today, thus marking its foray into the compact car segment which controls 73 per cent of the domestic automobile market. However, with the Jazz priced between Rs 6.98 lakh and Rs 7.33 lakh over three variants, many analysts feel the company may have written itself out of the extremely price-sensitive small car segment it was hoping to compete in.
Masahiro Takedagawa, president and CEO, HSCI, said, “Though we are entering a larger portion of the market, HSCI wants to challenge fixed perceptions of what the segment should look like. This is a unique product and so we feel there is no competition and we hope to create a whole new segment with this car. We will be more than happy if the car manages to sell at half the volumes of the City, about 2,000 cars a month.”
The car will be manufactured from the company plant in Greater Noida as Honda had indefinitely deferred the start of car production at its Rajasthan plant
