YouTube emerges as new stream of revenue for filmmakers
YouTube could become a showcase for Bollywood movies if Studio 18's experiment with its latest film Striker catches on. The film, set in a 1980s Mumbai ghetto, was released simultaneously on the website in all countries except India and Pakistan.
"Many films do not merit an international release, while there is latent demand from an audience that might be interested in Indian cinema," said Studio 18 chief executive officer Sandeep Bhargava. "It's almost a free a income for us, through markets that we otherwise may not have tapped."
