Y S Rajasekhar Reddy memorial at crash site
The state Cabinet has cleared the proposal for a Rs 3.15-crore memorial at Pavuralagutta in Nallamala forest where the former Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, was killed in copter crash along with four others.
The ambitious plan involves the establishment of a Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy Smrithi Vanam on 1,412 hectares belonging to the forest department. It will include a memorial, a four-km long trekking path to the accident spot, a peacock breeding centre and an elephant sanctuary. It is expected to be ready by September 2, 2010, the first anniversary of YSR's death.
Plans are also afoot to set up a memorial in or near Hyderabad. A six-member Cabinet sub committee was constituted to identify a suitable site for this.
