No Class 10 boards from 2011
Human resources development minister Kapil Sibal said on Monday that the CBSE Class 10 board examinations would be abolished from 2011 onwards.
While these would continue in the current academic year, the 2010 exam would be based on the grading system.
"Students will have the choice to take the Class 10 exam on demand for transfer to another school or entry into pre-university institutes, effectively abolishing the existing system," Mr Sibal said, adding: "Any student who wants to continue in the same school need not appear for it.
