Chicken pox downs Saina, Indian medal hopes
Contracting chicken pox grants life-long immunity from the disease but for India's top shuttler Saina Nehwal, the diagnosis on Wednesday has coincided with the last leg of her preparation for the world championship at home.
Ranked No. 6 in the world and in with a favourable draw, Nehwal was India's best hope at the August 10-16 event.
The 19-year-old insists she will get on court when the tournament starts in 10 days in Hyderabad. But chicken pox will not only be a serious impediment to her chances, it has also punctured the buoyancy of the biggest badminton spectacle to be staged in India.
