Jammu flares up: 2 die in police firing

Tension flared up in Samba town today after two protestors were killed and several others injured in police firing and clashes, taking the death toll on Amarnath land issue to five in Jammu region.
Irked over the police action, the protestors damaged scores of vehicles and set a bus a blaze on the Jammu-Pathankot National Highway.
Tension also escalated in Doda district where the administration imposed Section 144 CrPc while curfew remained in place in trouble hit Jammu, Rajouri, and Udhampur districts and in Bhaderwah Tehsil of Doda district. However, situation remained tense in curfew-hit areas on the 12th consecutive day of bandh call given by Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangharsh Samiti (SAYSS).
Situation in Kathua also remained grim as the protestors entered into clashes with police at Chann Arorian area after blocking the Jammu-Pathankot road and the police resorted to cane charge, teargas shelling and firing in air to disperse the mob.
Reports of curfew violation by the protestors poured in from the city of temples and its peripheral areas, Udhampur and Samba districts. The protestors stopped two trains for hours at Budhi and Hiranagar areas in the evening.
Reports from Samba said that two protestors were killed and at-least fifty others including some women and cops were injured in police firing and clashes between the police and protestors in Samba town this afternoon.
The situation took an ugly turn in the afternoon when thousands of protestors from different parts of Samba district gathered near New Bus Stand Samba. Defying the curfew restrictions, at-least 5000 protestors reached the main bazaar and they started proceeding towards the highway.
They were stopped by Army personnel deployed in the town. However, protestors requested them to allow women to proceed towards Link Road.
