Horoscope cant find you your soulmate!

SocialTwist Tell-a-Friend
Lonely hearts who turn to horoscopes to find their perfect partner are wasting their time, says a recent study according to Daily Mail.
The research failed to see any evidence of attraction between star signs. It also concluded that the zodiac had no impact on our chances of marrying - or staying married.
The study conducted by University of Manchester used 2001 Census data to analyse the birthdays of 20 million husbands and wives in England and Wales. No special compatibility was found between star signs, Dr David Voas, from the university's School of Social Sciences told Daily Mail.
"If there is even the smallest tendency for Virgos to fancy Capricorns, or for Libras to like Leos, then we should see it in the marriage statistics,” he points out.

Story of the world's most famous chewing gum!

SocialTwist Tell-a-Friend
William Wrigley was 29 years old, had $32 in his pocket and unlimited enthusiasm and energy. He also had great talent as a salesman. His father was a soap manufacturer, and at the start of his new business in Chicago, Mr. Wrigley sold Wrigley's Scouring Soap. As an extra incentive to merchants, Mr. Wrigley offered premiums. He knew his customers would be more likely to carry Wrigley's soap if they received a little "something for nothing." One of these premiums was baking powder. When baking powder proved to be more popular than soap, he switched to the baking powder business.
Then one day in 1892, Mr. Wrigley got the idea of offering two packages of chewing gum with each can of baking powder. The offer was a big success. Once again the premium - chewing gum - seemed more promising than the product it was supposed to promote. At that time, there were at least a dozen chewing gum companies in the United States, but the industry was relatively undeveloped. Mr. Wrigley decided that chewing gum was the product with the potential he had been looking for, so he began marketing it under his own name. His first two brands were Lotta and Vassar. Juicy Fruit gum came next in 1893, and Wrigley's Spearmint was introduced later that same year.

U.P STATE ELECTIONS - AN UN WANTED HYPE?

SocialTwist Tell-a-Friend

With the Uttar Pradesh State Elections drawing near, the activities of both Samajwadi Party & the BSP have managed to reach a crescendo, with the incumbent government roping in super star Amitabh Bachchan to promote their election campaign, giving rising a lot or eyebrows and the speculation that Big B was entering back into politics. God knows the amount the Mulayam Singh government must have spent on him, did anyone actually tried finding out? while responding to Rajdeep Sardesai's question on IBN, Amar Singh vehemently responded "I don't need to tell you the amount we have spent on Mr. Bachchan's ad." The TV channels, have been debating in and out for the past one month, bringing across issues and making skeletons tumble out of the closet in a heap, has got the Samajwadi Party running for cover and becoming quite re-active. But honestly, sometimes its worth stopping a minute and pondering - Does our largest state, which has got one of the worst law and order situations ? The most number of unemployed youth in the state, and the functioning of the state which needs looking into to stop its corruption level (Highest Corruption level in the state), isn't it ironical that the ruling party spend money on ads, and propagating their own party. Even the media sometimes seems to be focusing on the wrong issues. And can some one please tell, how is it that Mayawati, who faces corruption charges of Rs.1000 crore is being allowed to contest elections? But then we all know the answer isn't it. Wonder when we INDIANS will awake from our slumber?

History of 'YAHOO!'

SocialTwist Tell-a-Friend
Yahoo! began as a student hobby and evolved into a global brand that has changed the way people communicate with each other, find and access information and purchase things. The two founders of Yahoo!, David Filo and Jerry Yang, Ph.D. candidates in Electrical Engineering at Stanford University, started their guide in a campus trailer in February 1994 as a way to keep track of their personal interests on the Internet. Before long they were spending more time on their home-brewed lists of favorite links than on their doctoral dissertations. Eventually, Jerry and David's lists became too long and unwieldy, and they broke them out into categories. When the categories became too full, they developed subcategories ... and the core concept behind Yahoo! was born.
The Web site started out as "Jerry and David's Guide to the World Wide Web" but eventually received a new moniker with the help of a dictionary. The name Yahoo! is an acronym for "Yet Another Hierarchical Officious Oracle," but Filo and Yang insist they selected the name because they liked the general definition of a yahoo: "rude, unsophisticated, uncouth."

The night when moon went red

SocialTwist Tell-a-Friend
Moon, on Sunday morning turned red. It probably knew it was Holi in India. In the early hours of 4th March, a total lunar eclipse occurred which made the moon look red and it took almost 6 hours for the earth's shadow to cross the moon.
A lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth passes directly between the Moon and the Sun. Light scattering through the Earth's atmosphere is reduced to predominantly red wavelengths, which reflect off the lunar surface. The total eclipse lasted for over an hour, with Europe getting the best view.
The next lunar eclipse will occur on 28th August .

Traffic Signals....they are over 135 years old!!!

SocialTwist Tell-a-Friend
The first traffic lights were installed outside the British Houses of Parliament in London, by the railway engineer J.P. Knight on 10 December 1868. They resembled railway signals of the time, with semaphore arms and red and green gas lamps for night use. The gas lantern was turned with a lever at its base so that the appropriate light faced traffic. Unfortunately, it exploded on 2 January 1869, injuring the policeman who was operating it.
The modern electric traffic light is an American invention. As early as 1912 in Salt Lake City, Utah, policeman Lester Wire set up the first red-green electric traffic lights. On 5 August 1914, the American Traffic Signal Company installed a traffic signal system on the corner of 105th Street and Euclid Avenue in Cleveland, Ohio. Based on the design of James Hoge
, it had two colors, red and green, and a buzzer to provide a warning for color changes. The first four-way, three-color traffic light was created by police officer William Potts in Detroit in 1920.
So, there’s so much to these three colors that bring in some discipline on the road!
