Mumbai serial Bomb Blasts, haven’t we heard this before. The last time a serial bomb blast of such magnitude that took place in Mumbai (erstwhile Bombay) was during the mayhem in March 1993. This was one of the earliest Terror attacks and it took the whole World by shock. Now the latest blasts seem to have followed a series of Blasts in rest of the World and Kashmir.
India has experienced extreme Militancy in all its forms since the 1980s. Now post 2000 its spread across the World and we’ve seen some of the most ghastly acts from the days of human existance.
We the twin tower plane crashes in September 2001, usually remembered as 9/11 attack. Then we had the Bali attack on innocent tourists. We also had serial blasts in Madrid 3/11; and then last year we had another deadly attack on the London tube stations, a.k.a. 7/7.
We had the whole World together during such trying times. And it’s during such testing time does the city’s true character is reflected.
After having seen the warm-hearted Mumbai Police work overtime and help its citizens during this year’s heavy rains, it was the now the turn of the Citizens themselves to come out in full force to show their care.
We could see anxious hands there to pull out the people caught under heavy parts following the blast and the stampede that followed. Then we could see the Taxis and members of the public rush the injured to nearly Hospitals. You could see many distributing water and free food. The government too did its little part by making sure ambulances were rushed to the spot and traffic congestions were cleared. Also the BEST buses of Mumbai were there to transport the stranded passengers from different stations.
The citizens of Mumbai need to be commended for their acts of Benevolence, braving it all – from the heavy rains to possible dangerous situation in the aftermath.
It’s now high time for the concerned authorities to act. Along with the full support of its citizens they need to tackle this crisis and ensure that it doesn’t happen again. The nation needs to do whatever it takes to protect the face of its cities by investing in high-tech security especially in their Public Transport system and also their Tourist destinations.
Forget about recovery and resulting implications of these blasts, now all we need to do is safeguard our Citizens against such horrifying acts. Such steps ought to be done whatever it takes and at whatever cost.
Mumbaikars always had the strength to rise out of the ashes and carry on with their life - true reflection of a Mumbai’s strength and character.
